Clay was born in Carmichael, California. After spending several years in Northern California, the Botkin family relocated to Carlsbad in southern California where he made several life-long friends before moving back to Northern California, finally laying roots in El Dorado Hills.
Clay is a passionate athlete having played football, basketball, and baseball at Oak Ridge High School. Upon graduating, Clay attended the University of Redlands where he continued to play football, sang in the University Choir, and more importantly, met the future Mrs. Botkin, Ashley.
